Growing up in the New York City area, Felipe Borrero was accustomed to hearing Jazz music from the radio stations as well as the Salsa music from his Puerto Rican neighborhood. As a young boy, he used to go watch the holiday parades in New York City and was drawn to the Trumpets and Trombones proclaiming their presence hearing them echo off the skyscraper walls. He thought then what a powerful sound declaring holidays and celebration.
There were three men who were musicians themselves that helped Felipe forge this sound in his beginning musical journey. Their names are Mr. Botello, Mr. Allen and Mr. Mungia. These three men have all since passed away but their impact upon Felipe will never be forgotten. After over 45 years of playing the trumpet, trombone and flugelhorn he has been very blessed to have been involved in Salsa, Merengue, Blues, Country Swing, Top 40, Jazz, Latin Jazz and Tejano so far in his career.
Felipe has performed and/or recorded with such notables to name a few; W.C. Clark, Ruben Ramos, Luis Shati, Alfonso Ramos, Alex D’Castro, Little Joe, Luisito Rosario, Augustine Ramirez, Gabe Nieto, Joe Bravo, Stephanie Urbina Jones and Sam Irwin. He has also shared the stage with Carlos Santana, Los Van Van, Cubanisimo, Trombone Shorty and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. There are many more of course but not enough space to name them all.
Felipe is currently working with his projects; Tiburon, Big Band Tejano, Trio 2 to 1, Salsa Libertad and Trio4mas. Along with these he also performed and/or recorded with The Brew, Kiko y La Banda, Rey Arteaga, Son y No Son, Mambo Blue and La Vida Loca.
